Newspaper Review: Dailies highlight remarks by President Abbas

RAMALLAH, Palestinian Arabic-language dailies focused today on remarks made yesterday by President Mahmoud Abbas that “our people deserve to have their local and global achievements”. The dailies also highlighted statements by Palestinian officials and factions condemning the Israeli incitement campaign against the President.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted President Abbas as saying that “our people deserve to have their achievements at the local and global levels.” The remarks were made as he inaugurated two buildings in Ramallah.

Al-Ayyam quoted the President as saying: “Young people must be empowered with a future vision that everyone should cooperate in its formulation and implementation.”

Al-Quds quoted President Abbas as saying that the recent Israeli raids and shutdown of seven Palestinian civil society organizations are rejected.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has started a campaign to make US aid to Israel conditional upon the latter’s ending of its occupation of Palestine.

Al-Quds said Tlaib urged the Biden administration to hold Israel to account for its practices in occupied Palestine.

Al-Ayyam said the European Union pledged yesterday to continue to support the Palestinian civil society, in the aftermath of the raids and measures taken by Israeli occupation forces against seven Palestinian civil society organizations in Ramallah.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Robby Berman, an Israeli human rights defender and activist, has shed the light on the double standards of the Israeli occupation army in its dealing with Palestinian and Israeli shepherds in the Jordan Valley region.

Al-Ayyam said Palestinian officials and institutions continued to speak in support of President Mahmoud Abbas while denouncing a campaign led by Israel following his press conference in Germany last week that they said is aimed at him and the Palestinian people and cause.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said protests were held yesterday in Lebanon in support of President Abbas and in the face of the Israeli-led incitement campaign against him.

Al-Ayyam quoted the UN-OCHA as saying that Israeli occupation forces demolished or seized 50 homes in the occupied West Bank during the past two weeks.
