Newspaper Review: Israel’s assassination of three Palestinians in Jenin focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, The three Palestinian Arabic-language dailies focused today on the assassination of three Palestinians near the town of Arraba, south of Jenin in the occupied West Bank, by Israeli undercover forces on Friday-Saturday night.

Al-Hayat Al-Jadida wrote in bold black: “The [Israeli] occupation devours more [Palestinian] blood and assassinates three Palestinians in Jenin.”

Al-Quds also wrote in bold black: “Three Palestinians were assassinated in Arraba on the first day of the holy month Ramadan”.

Al-Ayyam also reported on the same story in its main headline, adding that four members of Israel’s elite Yamam Unit who carried out the assassination were injured by gunfire as they exchanged gunfire with the three Palestinians before the three were announced dead.

The three dailies said Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, strongly condemned the recent Israeli escalation which coincided with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, warning that this escalation could lead to an explosion of the situation.

Al-Quds quoted Israeli reports as saying that the Israeli escalation of violence in the West Bank might lead to an outbreak of violence in other regions.

Al-Hayat Al-Jadida said Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, discussed with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres efforts to provide the necessary financial and political support to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Al-Ayyam said the Israeli occupation army put its troops along the border with the Gaza Strip on a state of high alert.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli soldiers opened fire yesterday at a Palestinian man on a northern West Bank road near the town of Arraba, south of Jenin, injuring and arresting him.

Al-Quds said Israeli ‘Defense” Minister Benny Gantz and the Chief of General Staff Aviv Kochavi have issued orders to the Israeli occupation army to be ready for a month-long escalation of tensions that may last until the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
