Newspaper Review: Israel’s killing of a Palestinian in Jenin focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, The three Palestinian Arabic-language dailies focused today on the fatal shooting yesterday of a Palestinian young man by the Israeli occupation army and the injury of another 14 during an Israeli raid of Jenin refugee camp, north of the West Bank.

Al-Hayat Al-Jadida said in its main news story: “The [Israeli] occupation escalates the aggression on Jenin: A young man shot dead and another 14 wounded as Israeli forces raid Jenin and the neighboring refugee camp.”

Al-Quds and Al-Ayyam also reported on the same story in their main news items.

The two dailies said the Israeli occupation authorities announced a new package of collective punishment against the entire Jenin province in the occupied West Bank, including preventing Palestinian nationals of Israel from entering the province.

On a different subject, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas commended yesterday the ongoing efforts by Saudi Arabia to achieve national unity in Yemen.

Al-Quds and Al-Ayyam said an 80-year-old Palestinian man was acutely beaten up yesterday by a group of Israeli settlers while grazing his sheep outside the village of Kafr al-Labad in the occupied West Bank province of Tulkarm.

Al-Hayat Al-Jadida said the Communist Party of India called for the creation of an independent Palestinian state on the pre-1967 border with Jerusalem as its caital.

Al-Quds said Israeli occupation authorities yesterday prevented Palestinian worshipers from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex following the nightly Taraweeh prayer.

Al-Ayyam said Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike yesterday in central Syria targeting a military outpost affiliated with the Syrian government.
