Newspaper Review: Palestinian child killed by Israeli forces focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, News about the Israeli killing of a Palestinian child near Bethlehem, as well as Israeli far-right racist minister’s storming of occupied Jerusalem’s Aqsa mosque hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Wednesday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that a Palestinian child has been shot dead by Israeli forces during a military raid in the refugee camp of al-Dheisha, south of the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem.

The papers added that Adam Ayyad, 15, was shot with a live bullet in the chest and taken to the Beit Jala hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Another child was shot in the hand.

They elaborated that Israeli forces broke into the camp and proceeded to raid and ransack Palestinian-owned houses, sparking confrontations, during which the soldiers fired live and rubber-coated steel bullets as well as sound and toxic gas canisters.

The dailies also reported that Israeli Jewish supremacist Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, Tuesday stormed the compounds of al-Aqsa mosque in the occupied city of Jerusalem under heavy protection from the Israeli forces.

Ben-Gvir entered the Islamic holy site from al-Maghariba Gate (Dung Gate) and arrived at Al-Buraq Wall plaza.

The papers reported several statements by Palestinian, Arab and Islamic officials condemning Ben-Gvir’s storming of al-Aqsa.

Secretary-General of PLO Executive Committee Hussein al-Sheikh tweeted: “Ben Gvir’s shameless storming of AlAqsa Mosque, under the protection of the occupation forces and protected by the decision of his prime minister, is a prelude to a larger measure if there is no Palestinian, Arab, Islamic and international response to it.”

Egypt’s Al-Azhar, the world’s top Islamic institution for Sunni Muslims, condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by the Israeli Jewish supremacist minister.

According to the papers, Turkey also condemned the incursion, while Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates summoned the Israeli ambassador in Amman to protest the incursion.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that President Mahmoud Abbas Tuesday night stated that he would seek the United Nations Security Council to condemn Israeli far-right minister’s incursion into Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

President Abbas said he would task the Palestinian Mission to the United Nations to take immediate action at UNSC to stop such incursions and aggressions by Israeli government officials and extremist groups aimed at illegally altering the character as well as the historic and religious identity and legal status in the occupied city of East Jerusalem.

The papers said that Israeli forces demolished five Palestinian inhabited houses in Yatta town, south of the city of Hebron.

They added that Israeli forces Tuesday locked down the Ibrahimi Mosque and assaulted and detained a Palestinian girl in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron.
