Newspapers Review: Concerns about the new Israeli right-wing government highlight of the dailies

RAMALLAH, Concerns about where the new right-wing Israeli government dominated by racist politicians is going to lead the country and region were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

The main front-page story headline in al-Ayyam daily said: “Ben Gvir’s next plan: Allowing settlers to pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque, shooting at stone throwers, and legalizing the settlement outposts.”

It also said in another headline: “Warnings: The powers given to Ben Gvir could enflame the region.”

Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh in its main front-page story headline saying that “the understandings of the right-wing Israeli coalition set the ground for a new stage that violates international law and legitimacy.”

It also quoted Hussein al-Sheikh, secretary-general of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), saying that “the program of the upcoming Israeli government and the agreement of the right-wing fascist coalition warns that we are headed towards a new political phase.”

The third daily, al-Quds, also quoted former Israeli security officials in a story on the same topic but lower on the front page saying that Ben Gvir could inflame the region and harm relations with Washington.

Its main front-page story focused on a plan by the outgoing right-wing Israeli minister of interior, Ayelet Shaked, to complete a project before she leaves office to build 9000 housing settlement units on land that was part of the Jerusalem airport, north of occupied East Jerusalem.

It also said that 198 international organizations called on the International Criminal Court to investigate Israeli war crimes against the Palestinians.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the Israeli Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem fired a Palestinian doctor from the Israeli Arab town of Umm al-Fahm for giving a piece of candy to an injured Palestinian child getting treatment at the hospital.

It quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying that Israel steals 600 million cubic meters of Palestinian underground water.

It also said the Socialist International called on its members to take real steps to salvage the peace process in the Middle East, calling on Israel to end all its settlement activities, demolition of Palestinian-owned homes, and displacement of Palestinian civilians.

Al-Ayyam said a Palestinian worker was shot by Israeli soldiers near Tulkarm in the north of the West Bank.

It also said that the Israeli government has banned Israelis from repairing their cars in West Bank garages.

The dailies also highlighted the results of the World Cup 2022, particularly the victory of Morocco over Belgium, with al-Hayat al-Jadida saying President Mahmoud Abbas congratulated the King of Morocco over the win.

Al-Ayyam also printed a picture of the start of the Christmas decorations in the biblical city of Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ, starting with decorating the Christmas tree, which will be lit on December 3 in official ceremonies.
