Newspapers Review: Death of a critically wounded Palestinian, settlers’ rampage in West Bank focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, The death of Mujahid Daoud, 31, from the village of Haris in the north of the West Bank hours after he was shot and critically wounded by Israeli soldiers in the nearby village of Qarawat Bani Hassan, and the settlers’ rampage in the West Bank were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

 

The dailies said that as the settlers continue, unabated, to rampage in the West Bank under army protection, soldiers continue to raid West Bank cities, mainly Nablus, which has been under tight army blockade for several days.

 

Al-Quds said Israel plans to build 700 new housing units in three illegal settlements in occupied East Jerusalem.

 

It also said in a report from its correspondent that Washington is angry at President Mahmoud Abbas for telling Russian President Putin that he does not trust the administration of Joe Biden.

 

Al-Ayyam said that the US administration has expressed concern over the situation in the occupied West Bank.

 

It also quoted the United Nations special envoy to the Middle East calling for calm in the West Bank after meetings he held in Jenin and Nablus in light of the Israeli army escalation and the shooting and killing of several young Palestinians over the past weeks.

 

It said Israeli drones constantly flying over Jerusalem and their buzzing sound is annoying the city’s residents.

 

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh went to the northern West Bank city of Jenin yesterday to give condolences to the families of the Palestinians killed by the Israeli army over the weekend and said that the blood of the martyrs will not be in vain.

 

It printed a story about the humiliation and suffering at the Israeli military checkpoints in the West Bank, mainly in the Nablus region.

 

The paper said that an international conference held in Bucharest adopted a resolution on the right of Palestine to develop the communication sector.

 

The war in Ukraine continued to receive front-page coverage in the Palestinian dailies.
