RAMALLAH, The three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today highlighted on their front page the Israeli army murder of 15-year-old Jana Zakarneh during an army raid of the northern West Bank city of Jenin.

“Jana Zakarneh, murdered by an Israeli sniper and the pretext ‘error in identity’,” was the headline in al-Hayat al-Jadida.

Al-Ayyam had the headline: “The occupation forces execute a child during an assault on Jenin.”

It said that the Israeli occupation admitted responsibility for this crime. It also published a story on how Zakarneh was shot and killed on the roof of her house and said Jana went on the roof to look for her cat when the shooting started and she was hit, without her family knowing that she was hit until one hour after the soldiers left the area.

The third daily, al-Quds, also highlighted the murder of Zakarneh and published several local and international condemnations, including a call by Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh on the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba, to include Israel on the United Nations “list of shame” following the killing of Zakarneh.

The newspaper also reported on the Israeli demolitions or orders of demolition of Palestinian –owned structures in the West Bank, as well as the army incursions and arrests.

It said the building committee in the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem approved the construction of 1200 housing units in the illegal settlement of Gilo, south of Jerusalem.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said signs placed at the Magharbe Gate that leads to Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City that forbid Jews from entering the Mosque yards for religious reasons were removed and replaced by signs that encourage them to break into the Muslim holy compound.

It also said PM Shtayyeh told a delegation of US businesspeople who visited him at his office in Ramallah that reviving the two-state solution requires serious US pressure on Israel.

It also said that the United Nations General Assembly voted yesterday on four resolutions in favor of Palestine including extending the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
