Newspapers Review: Israeli demolition of Palestinian homes, settlers’ war on olive trees highlight of dailies

RAMALLAH, The Israeli demolition of six Palestinian-owned homes in the occupied territories as well as the unabated war by Israeli settlers on olive trees and harvest was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

“Six homes and structures were demolished in the West Bank and settlers chop 200 olive trees,” was the main front-page story headline in al-Quds daily.

“Wide demolition campaign against homes and structures, and settlers continue to wage the ‘olives war’,” was the main headline in al-Ayyam daily.

The third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida, said in its main front-page headline: “The occupation demolishes homes and structures in Jerusalem, Ramallah, Jericho and Bethlehem.”

Al-Ayyam also said the Israeli military issued a decision to demolish the homes of two Palestinians allegedly involved in the killing of a soldier near Jenin in September.

The three dailies also reported on the hearings at the United Nations by human rights organizations and victims of Israeli repression.

Al-Quds said the freedom flotilla is planning another attempt to break the 16-year-long Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on the opening of the COP27 conference in Sharm al-Sheikh and the participation of Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh in the conference in which he called for more financial support for environmental projects in the developing countries.

Al-Ayyam also said the military court in Gaza upheld death sentences against convicts involved in murder and spying for Israel.
