The decision announced yesterday by the Israeli premier and the foreign minister to dissolve the parliament and hold new elections in October was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.
Al-Ayyam daily said dissolving the parliament and holding new elections will not affect the planned visit of US President Joe Biden to the region in the middle of next month.
The report by the New York Times confirming that the Palestinian Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was shot and killed by an Israeli soldier also received front-page coverage in al-Ayyam as well as al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida dailies.
Israeli incursions, settlement plans, and settlers’ attacks against Palestinians were also highlighted on the front page of the three dailies.
Al-Quds daily said Israel has decided to postpone construction in the so-called E1 settlement project, east of Jerusalem, and taking over church property in Jaffa Gate area of Jerusalem’s old city in order not to infuriate the US administration prior to Biden’s visit next month.
Al-Ayyam said two Palestinians escaped lynching by Jewish mobs during their work at an Israeli settlement in Jerusalem.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the decision to pay Palestinian workers in Israel through bank transfers puts the work of the illegal permit dealers on the line.
It said the cabinet has adopted a plan to develop government services.
