Newspapers Review: Palestinian boy killed by Israeli gunfire focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, News about the Palestinian boy who was shot and killed by the Israeli forces near the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem hit the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that Israeli soldiers shot and killed 14-year-old Mohammad Shehadeh in the town of al-Khader, near the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem, during confrontations between soldiers who raided the town and local youths.

Al-Quds daily said soldiers detained yesterday 23 Palestinians in the West Bank and al-Ayyam said confrontations broke out between soldiers and residents in al-Lubban al-Sharqiya and Jalazone refugee camp.

An Israeli occupation court decided to freeze the eviction of the Salem family from their home in the western part of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem, as reported in the dailies.

Al-Quds said Israel keeps moving government offices from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem to claim sovereignty over the occupied city.

Al-Ayyam highlighted the conflict in Ukraine and said the western countries started sanctions against Russia as Russian President Putin calls for neutralizing and disarming Ukraine.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh called on the US Congress to push for measures to protect the two-state solution.

Israeli occupation authorities issued 110 demolition orders against homes and commercial shops in the Arab town of Tira, inside Israel, citing many pretexts to justify the demolitions, according to Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are set to go on a hunger strike for one day in protest against the Israeli Prison Services’ measures against them with al-Hayat al-Jadida saying that a day of rage has been called for Tuesday in support of the prisoners.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that 14 people have died of Covid-19 in Palestine in the last 24 hours and 2117 new cases were confirmed.
