Newspapers review: The Tel Aviv attack and its aftermath, and developments in Jerusalem focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, The attack in Tel Aviv on Thursday night and its aftermath, as well as the latest developments in Jerusalem, mainly observing the first Friday of Ramadan at Al-Aqsa Mosque, were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

Al-Ayyam daily said the Tel Aviv attacker was killed after nine hours of hot pursuit in Tel Aviv and Jaffa.

Al-Quds daily said the number of dead in Tel Aviv rose to three as the Israeli army tightened the siege on Jenin, home of the attacker, closing off al-Jalama crossing with Israel and the Israeli prime minister giving the army a free hand to act in the occupied territories in any way it sees fit.

The third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida, said President Mahmoud Abbas has condemned the Tel Aviv attack and the killing of civilians.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam published several stories on the attack, mainly based on Israeli media reports, detailing information about what happened on that day and later.

The three dailies said 80,000 worshippers attended the first Friday of Ramadan prayer in Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque despite strict Israeli measures at crossing points, as reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida.

The papers also reported on the weekly Friday protests in the West Bank against the Israeli occupation and its settlements, saying several people were injured when the Israeli army cracked down on the protests.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said on its front page that President Abbas has approved the 2022 Palestinian budget.

The debate on whether or not the Israeli government is going to fall and new elections will be held following a crisis in the coalition government was also highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian dailies.

The war in Ukraine and developments there were also highlighted on the front page of the dailies.
