Kigali: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the Global AI Summit on Africa 2025, held in Kigali, Republic of Rwanda. The event was organized under the theme "AI and Africa's Demographic Dividend: Reimagining Economic Opportunities for Africa's Workforce."

According to Oman News Agency, the two-day summit commenced with the aim of discussing developments, innovations, and technologies in the field of artificial intelligence. It provided a platform for exchanging knowledge and expertise with other countries and highlighted investment opportunities in Oman within the AI sector, aiming to foster cooperation with international companies.

Oman's delegation was led by Dr. Ali Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology. The delegation also included officials from the ministry and representatives from Omani technology firms such as ITCHA Group, Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel), and Oman Data Park.

The summit attracted over 1,000 participants from 95 countries, including policymakers, entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors. Attendees represented more than 100 AI companies, with the summit's objective being to accelerate AI innovation in Africa, align strategic policies, and enhance the continent's AI capabilities for competitive and inclusive growth.

A significant development at the summit was the launch of the Africa AI Council, which will spearhead the continent's AI ambitions. The event featured panel discussions, workshops, and showcased products from over 100 promising AI companies in Africa. Discussions also focused on using AI to encourage innovation and enhance the skills of Africa's workforce.

On the sidelines, Dr. Al Shidhani met with Paula Ingabire, Rwanda's Minister of Communications, Information Technology and Innovation. Their discussions centered on expanding cooperation in the ICT field and exploring Rwanda's digital transition experience.
