Oman Engages in Key Discussions at Arab Social Affairs Meeting in Jordan


Amman: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the 45th regular session of the Council of Arab Ministers for Social Affairs, which took place in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Dr. Laila bint Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, led Oman’s delegation at the event.



According to Oman News Agency, the meeting focused on the social dimensions of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing poverty eradication and the rights of persons with disabilities. Discussions also covered integrated social protection and issues concerning the care of the elderly, families, and children. Furthermore, the attendees addressed the development of an Arab roadmap aimed at establishing a comprehensive and sustainable Arab welfare economy, with attention to the role of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development. The meeting outlined the schedule of programs, projects, and activities for the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs up to the year 2026.



On the sidelines of the main event, Dr. Laila participated in a high-level Arab conference centered on ‘Implementing the Declaration of the Second World Summit for Social Development’. The conference comprised five sessions that explored topics such as the social and development messages of the Doha Declaration from the Second World Summit for Social Development. It also examined Arab-UN cooperation in implementing the political declaration and strategies for achieving comprehensive inclusion and empowerment of disadvantaged social groups. The discussions also addressed the eradication of all forms of poverty and methods for implementing the Doha Declaration.
