Nouakchott: The Sultanate of Oman today participated in the meetings of the Parliamentary Union of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States in Nouakchott, Islamic Republic of Mauritania. These meetings were part of the 55th session of the Executive Committee of the OIC Parliamentary Union, with the Omani delegation led by Mohammed Salim Al Harthy, Member of the State Council.
According to Oman News Agency, the meeting addressed the draft agenda of the Executive Committee, involving members from the Committee on Economic and Environmental Affairs. During the session, two Vice-Presidents of the Executive Committee were elected to represent African and Asian groups. Additionally, the distribution of seats for the Executive Committee's next session was approved.
The assembly also reviewed recommendations from the previous conference and made plans for the 20th conference of the Parliamentary Union scheduled for Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, in mid-June 2026. Discussions included the Palestinian cause, current challenges facing the Islamic nation, and strategies to consolidate joint efforts for regional security and stability.
The 55th session of the Executive Committee of the OIC Parliamentary Union concentrated on enhancing mechanisms for joint parliamentary work, exchanging parliamentary experiences, and addressing political, economic, and social issues. It also involved drafting recommendations to strengthen joint Islamic action.
