Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman and the State of Qatar today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as part of a 5-year executive programme in the field of environment conservation (2025-2029). The MoU was signed on behalf of the Sultanate of Oman by Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, and Abdulaziz Ahmad Al Mahmoud, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the State of Qatar. The MoU was inked on the sidelines of Oman Climate Week currently being held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.
According to Oman News Agency, the agreement outlines plans for the two countries to establish joint cooperation projects and seek ways to finance them. The MoU also includes provisions for cooperation in related studies and research, organizing visits to the habitats of endangered wild animals, and efforts to combat invasive species.
The agreement further provides for the exchange of expertise in addressing land degradation and enhancing the restoration of vegetation. Additionally, the two sides will conduct a joint study on successful models of implementing sustainable management plans for nature reserves and propose twinning projects among wildlife reserves.
