Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in Oman is set to host the 25th Scientific Symposium of the GCC History and Archeology Society from August 24 to 26, 2026, in the Dhofar Governorate. The event will see participation from 180 association members, along with specialists and enthusiasts from both Oman and abroad. According to Oman News Agency, the symposium will feature 30 research papers presented over its scientific sessions, which will span two days. These papers will explore the history, antiquities, heritage, and culture of the GCC states throughout various historical periods. An exhibition accompanying the symposium will display artefacts and archaeological finds from Oman, and will include a section for the Ministry's publications on Omani heritage, as well as those from the GCC History and Archaeology Society and the Oman History Association. A chronological timeline of Oman's history, an art exhibition, and a tourist information center will also be part of the event. This year's symposium holds particular significance, coinciding with the silver jubilee of the society's symposia. Dhofar Governorate, known for its rich historical and cultural heritage, will serve as the venue for this landmark gathering. The symposium underscores the importance of historical and archaeological studies in enhancing knowledge of the region's history and heritage, which are integral to the cultural identity of the GCC states. It aims to highlight the shared history of the region's peoples and strengthen cooperation among them. The research papers will cover a wide range of topics based on archaeological surveys and field studies, examining historical events from different periods. They will also explore the cultural, civilizational, intellectual, economic, and social aspects of the region's history. On the third day, the symposium program includes visits to Dhofar Governorate's significant archaeological, historical, and tourist sites, aligning with the Khareef season. Participants will have the chance to engage with the natural, cultural, and tourism offerings of the Governorate, as well as its historical legacy.
