Oman to Host International, Asian U-14 Tennis Championships

The Sultanate of Oman, represented by Oman Tennis Association (OTA), will host the International and Asian Federation U-14 Championships (ITF Aisa 14) and regional qualifiers for West and Central Asia from 8 to 16 January 2024.

Eight teams from the Asian continent will compete in a large gathering for different age groups under the supervision of the International and Asian Tennis Federations.

This was unveiled during a press conference held today by the OTA in the presence of Eng. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Balushi, tournament director, and Algerian coach Sufian Doub, coach of the national teams.

Eng. Mohammed Al Balushi said that the tournament will bring together eight Asian teams: from Oman, Iraq, the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iran and Turkmenistan.

Al Balushi pointed out that Oman was awarded this opportunity after a long pause from hosting international tournaments, the last of which was Davis Cup competitions in Group Four in 2018. He added that, after that event, OTA stopped hosting the tournam
ents. ‘Today we get back to track, ready to host another international tournament, with good turnout from West Asian teams,’ said Al Balushi.

He explained that this hosting covers two tournaments, the first of which will last from 8 to 11 January, while the second event follows suit after a one-day break, to cover the period from 13 to 16 January 2024.

The tournament will see the felicitation of qualifiers and first-place finishers on the last day of each stage.
