Kuala lumpur: Represented by the Research and Innovation Authority (RIA), the Sultanate of Oman secured four medals at the International Invention, Innovation, Technology Competition and Exhibition (ITEX 2026) held in Malaysia. The achievements include three gold medals and one silver medal. The Omani projects stood out among over 1,000 inventions from 17 countries participating in ITEX 2026, which took place in Kuala Lumpur from May 18 to 20, 2026. These accomplishments highlight the progress made in Oman's research and development sector and demonstrate the potential of Omani talents to offer innovative solutions aligned with the 4th Industrial Revolution.
According to Oman News Agency, Oman's first gold medal was awarded to innovator Nahya Nasser Al Hamdani for her invention of 'smart glasses' with a mobile application, designed to assist blind and visually impaired individuals in safely interacting with their surroundings. Innovator Luqman Sulaiman Al Dhafri received the second gold medal and also the award for best invention at the exhibition for his "Drone-Air Lens" project, which focuses on the automated inspection of aircraft using drones and technologies in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Zaher Salim Al Alawi, another innovator, earned Oman's third gold medal for his project, "An Advanced Biotherapeutic Platform." This platform is designed to expedite the healing of chronic and diabetic wounds through smart delivery technologies. Meanwhile, Balqees Salim Al Hikmani was awarded Oman's silver medal for her innovative medical project, a closed-loop smart system aimed at regulating potassium levels in heart patients.
ITEX 2026 is recognized as one of the leading annual international platforms for showcasing innovations and inventions, attracting investors and entrepreneurs globally.
