Muscat: Oman Telecommunications Company ‘Omantel’ has invested more than RO 500 million in digital infrastructure in the Sultanate of Oman over the past six years. This enhances support for the national economy and digital infrastructure and cements Omantel’s position as a national platform for innovation and leadership.
According to Oman News Agency, Eng. Aladdin Baitfadhil, Chief Executive Officer of Omantel, explained that the company has become a national platform and an integrated regional technology group, with services extending from communications to cloud solutions, from cybersecurity to artificial intelligence, from data centers to enterprise solutions, and from youth empowerment to supporting innovation and entrepreneurship. He pointed out that Omantel’s acquisition of a strategic stake in Kuwait’s Zain Group has contributed to strengthening its presence and regional expansion into 8 markets encompassing more than 54 million subscribers.
He affirmed in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that,
with the acceleration of global transformations in the fields of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things, Omantel has proven its readiness and ability to keep pace with these changes and formulate innovative solutions that have placed the Sultanate of Oman in an advanced position on the map of the global digital economy. This prepares it to receive qualitative investments that enhance its position as a regional center for data and communications.
He pointed out that many achievements were realized during 2025, the most important of which was the launch of enhanced 5G technology as the first operator in the Sultanate of Oman to boost Omantel network’s readiness to support the next generation of digital technologies. The company also achieved its best financial and operational performance, with its revenues reaching about RO 2,290.9 million by the end of September 2025 and a net profit of RO 243.4 million. He added that the contribution of subsidiary companies to Oma
ntel Group’s revenues rose to 22% compared to 9% in 2018.
The CEO of Omantel explained that international connectivity constitutes a strategic axis that places the Sultanate of Oman at the heart of the global data movement, transforming the geographical location into a digital advantage. This, he said, is supported by qualitative partnerships with global technology and communications companies, as Omantel has become the most connected operator to submarine cables in the Middle East, utilizing more than 20 submarine cables connecting the Sultanate of Oman to more than 120 cities, 50 countries, and 3 major continents. This has strengthened the Sultanate of Oman’s position as a global digital gateway and the readiness of data centers and digital trade movement.
He clarified that the neutral data centers in both Muscat and Salalah have become an essential part of the national digital infrastructure and have contributed to hosting content for more than 40 global companies, supporting cloud solutions and services
, enhancing cybersecurity, and raising the Sultanate of Oman’s readiness to attract investments, making it a regional hub for data movement.
