Palestine logs 730 COVID cases, 19 deaths

Minister of Health Mai Alkaila said today that 730 new cases of COVID-19, 19 deaths and 2,375 recoveries were registered in Palestine during the last 24-hour reporting period.

In her daily report on the coronavirus pandemic, Alkaila said 14 deaths from COVID-19 were registered in the Gaza Strip, while another five deaths were reported in the West Bank.

A total of 3,717 COVID-19 tests were conducted during the reporting period. In the Gaza Strip, 360 coronavirus tests came out positive, while the West Bank had 370 new cases.

No update was available regarding the situation in occupied Jerusalem.

The Health Minister said that in the West Bank, 219 patients of COVID-19 are hospitalized, of whom 79 are in intensive care, including 10 on ventilators.

She pointed out that the recovery rate in Palestine has so far declined to 91.4 percent, while active cases rose to 7.5 percent.

Deaths stood at only one percent of total infections.

Concerning rollout of vaccines, the Health Minister said over 1,287,800 people have received their first jab of the vaccine in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, of whom 555,3800 have been fully vaccinated.
