Palestinian villages in the Jerusalem governorate celebrate completion of two Japanese-funded projects

Nakashima Yoichi, Ambassador for Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to Palestine, today visited Beit Doqqu and Biddu villages, northwest of Jerusalem, to celebrate the completion of two projects funded by the Government of Japan through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

The Government of Japan extended a grant of $89,520 to Beit Doqqu development society to improve steady water access with reasonable fees throughout the year by constructing 12 home cisterns.

Another grant of $90,180 was extended to the Joint Service Council (JSC) for solid waste management to improve waste management services, ensuring a safe environment and public health by installing 540 waste containers in the 16 villages in the north and northwest Jerusalem.

Upon the completion of the two projects, 50,000 residents benefit directly from the JSC services, and 270 inhabitants in Beit Doqqu benefit from the home cistern project.

In his speech, Nakashima Yoichi emphasized Japan’s firm commitment to supporting Palestinian people from a human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.

Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance to approximately $2.2 billion to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through the Ministry of Finance and Planning since 2010.
