OSLO, Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh discussed today with Norway’s Foreign Minister, Anniken Huitfeldt, ways to make the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) donors’ meeting a success.

During a meeting in Oslo, Shtayyeh and the Norwegian top diplomat also tackled strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Prime Minister considered that the current AHLC meeting comes at an important time, as the Palestinian Authority is going through a difficult financial situation.

He expressed hope that the meeting, which will be held in Oslo later today, will move the current situation forward and send messages of hope.

“We want Norway and friendly countries to break the deteriorating fait accompli created by Israel through its daily measures, and its systematic destruction of the two-state solution, by opening a serious political path that may be under the umbrella of the International Quartet,” the Prime Minister said.

He explained that pressure on Israel to respect the signed agreements might be effective towards reaching a political track and would also lead to allowing the holding of Palestinian elections in Jerusalem, like any Palestinian city, as stipulated in these agreements.

Meanwhile, Shtayyeh informed Huitfeldt about the difficult financial situation resulting from the Palestinian Authority’s lack of control over national resources, and the occupation’s unjust tax cuts.

He also spoke over a number of reform measures taken by the Palestinian Authority that aim at improving the performance of institutions, raising their efficiency, reducing expenditures, and enhancing freedoms.

For her part, Huitfeldt said she will push, during the AHLC meeting, to improve the daily life of the Palestinian people in a way that leads to a political horizon.

She stressed her country’s constant and continuous support for the two-state solution and the establishment of peace in the region.
