Premier says end of all unilateral Israeli measures a must for peace

Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh called today for an end to all the unilateral Israeli measures and for commitment to the signed agreements as the starting point for creating a political horizon, based on the Arab Peace Initiative and international law.

His call came as he received a delegation of the US Senate, headed by Senator Chuck Schumer, the Majority Leader in the Senate, at his office in Ramallah.

Shtayyeh said during the meeting: “Settlement expansion and appropriation of more lands in favor of building settlements is the first enemy of the two-state solution and the peace process. If Israel continues with more settlements, the two-state solution will no longer exist in the near future, and will be facing the reality of one state–which will be an apartheid state”.

The Prime Minister called for recognizing the State of Palestine on the 1967 borders in order to preserve the two-state solution. He also called for pressing Israel to stop all illegal deductions from the Palestinian tax funds, stop all forms of collective punishment against our people, release the withheld bodies of our martyrs, and allow elections to be held in all Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem.
