Premier: Statements expressing concern over killings of Palestinians not sufficient

Premier Mohammad Shtayyeh today stated that statements expressing concern over the killings of Palestinians are not sufficient.

Speaking at the outset of the daily cabinet’s session in Ramallah, Premier Shtayyeh said expressing concern over the killings of Palestinians by Israeli army gunfire was no longer commensurate with the gravity of the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation authorities along with their devastating effects on all aspects of life.

He added that repeating such crimes against the Palestinian people would not have been possible without the double-standard policy and selective approach, which benefits Israel in particular, and allows Israeli perpetrators to continue with their crimes.

The Premier welcomed the United Nations and European Union’s call for opening an investigation into the killing 22-year-old Ammar Mefleh, whose death was caught on video and shared widely on social media.

An Israeli soldier scuffled with Mefleh in the occupied West Bank town of Huwwara near Nablus before pulling a gun and firing two shots that sent the youth to ground before shooting him twice more at point-blank range on Friday.

He concluded by urging the international community to take serious and tangible steps to hold the occupation authorities accountable for such crimes and bring the perpetrators along with those inciting them to justice.
