Presidency condemns Israel’s approval of 3144 new settlement units in West Bank

RAMALLAH, The Palestinian presidency condemned in a statement today the Israeli occupation authorities’ approval to construct 3144 new settlement units in the occupied West Bank.

The presidency expressed its strong rejection and denunciation of these unilateral measures, which it stressed destroys what is left of the two-state solution, describing it as a defiance of Security Council resolutions.

The presidency slammed such unilateral measures as belittling the efforts of the US administration, which would require a Palestinian response to these offensive measures based on the decisions of the Palestinian leadership, international law, and UN resolutions.

It called on the US administration to implement its pledge to reject settlements and unilateral measures.

“These Israeli measures call for a decisive stance from all parties of the international community, including the International Quartet and the UN Security Council, to confront these Israeli decisions and practices that seek to steal Palestinian land and push matters towards a state of instability and tension, which will negatively affect everyone,” said the statement.

The presidency also warned of the dangers of these unacceptable practices which will have serious consequences, noting that this Israeli decision is a response and challenge to the recent American message calling for a stop to settlement activities.
