President Abbas discusses developments with Arab League Secretary-General

President Mahmoud Abbas received this evening at his residence in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and discussed with him the latest developments in Palestine.

President Abbas briefed Aboul Gheit on the latest developments regarding the Palestinian cause in view of the dangerous Israeli escalation against our people, especially in Jerusalem, and the ongoing attacks by Israeli settlers on the holy sites, particularly Al-Aqsa Mosque, and on the Palestinian people and their lands.

During the meeting, the President stressed the need for Israel to abide by all agreements signed with the Palestine Liberation Organization, and to stop unilateral measures on the ground.

The meeting discussed the upcoming Arab League conference to support Jerusalem, which aims to shed the light on the suffering of our people of Jerusalem and their right to live on their land. The meeting also underscored the need for more Arab aid to the Palestinians of Jerusalem in the areas of education, health, housing and other vital sectors.

Meantime, the President also received Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra in a separate meeting and the accompanying delegation at the former’s residence in Cairo.

During the meeting, President Abbas appreciated Algeria’s positions in support of the Palestinian cause in all international forums, and for its role in intra-Palestinian reconciliation.
