President Abbas meets Jordan’s King on sidelines of UN General Assembly

NEW YORK, President Mahmoud Abbas Tuesday met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

During their meeting, held in the presence of Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah, the two officials discussed the latest developments on the Palestinian and regional arena in addition to the ways to enhance bilateral Palestinian-Jordanian relations.

President Abbas expressed his appreciation to Jordan for its consistent positions advocating the rights of the Palestinian people in all international forums, the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem.

Jordan’s monarch Abdullah II, according to the Jordan News website, reiterated that the Palestinian cause is a Jordanian priority and called for maintaining Jordanian-Palestinian coordination on various levels to support the Palestinians in gaining their legitimate right.

King Abdullah highlighted the need to maintain and step up coordination with Arab states and international partners to push towards creating a political horizon for the Palestinian cause.

He stressed the need to include the Palestinians in regional economic projects, in order to empower them and support their resilience, while reaffirming that the two-state solution is the only way to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Meanwhile, President Abbas met the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway Anniken Huitfeldt at his residence in New York.

He briefed the top Norwegian diplomat on the latest developments, focusing on the long-stalled peace process and the suffering of the Palestinian people under the yoke of Israeli occupation and its aggressive practices.

The two official also discussed the latest developments in the political process, the international efforts exerted in this regard, the overall regional situation in addition to the bilateral Palestinian-Norwegian relations.

President Abbas arrived in New York on Sunday evening to attend the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

He is scheduled to deliver a speech before the United Nations General Assembly on September 23rd.
