Prime Minister Shtayyeh welcomes European Parliament vote on providing aid to the Palestinians

RAMALLAH, Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh welcomed yesterday’s European Parliament’s vote by an overwhelming majority in favor of continuing to provide aid to the Palestinian people.

In a statement issued last night by his office, Shtayyeh described the decision as “a victory for the Palestinian people, and a new affirmation of the stance of representatives of the European peoples with the values of right, justice, equality, and freedom, and rejecting the policies of extortion, deceit, and racism practiced by Israel against the Palestinian people through attempts by the Israeli lobby to incite the European Parliament to stop aid to the Palestinian people, especially to education and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA).”

He said that the European Parliament’s vote to provide $55 million to UNRWA “renews hope of the Palestinian people of the inevitability of achieving their legitimate rights accorded by the United Nations resolutions, and constitutes a major failure of Israeli attempts to incite against the Palestinian people in their quest to achieve their rights and establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.”
