Seminar Held on Emergency Management in Energy Sector

OQ, the integrated global energy group, organised a seminar on emergency management in collaboration with the National Centre for Emergency Management. The event was attended by representatives from various sectors of the national system, including specialists in emergency management from different institutions. This initiative aligns with OQ's commitment to health, safety, security, and the environment, which are pivotal strategies in its investments, operations, and facilities. OQ acknowledges the critical role of the oil and gas sector in the national economy and aims to strengthen national efforts by addressing risk challenges, prevention methods, and response strategies. Eng. Ali Mohamed Al Lawati, Chief Executive Officer of People, Technology, and Culture at OQ, delivered a keynote address, stating: "This seminar, organised in collaboration with the National Centre for Emergency Management, focuses on major incidents faced by the energy sector in Oman. It is of great importance for enhancing prepare dness and response to emergencies, and for improving coordination and planning with the National Centre for Emergency Management and other agencies." He further explained that the seminar aims to achieve several objectives, including evaluating risks in the energy sector, studying major incidents, and developing joint coordination mechanisms with national sectors for emergency management. It also seeks to support the business continuity of critical energy sector operations. The seminar's first session covered the assessment and management of energy sector risks, integration in emergency management between the national system and the energy sector, and emergency management strategies specific to the energy sector. The second session highlighted the role of medical response in handling injuries in the oil and gas sector, the handling of hazardous materials in oil and gas incidents and the importance of business continuity in the energy sector.
