Settlers gather in the north of West Bank in preparation to establish illegal outpost

SALFIT, Wednesday, July 20, 2022 (WAFA) – Hundreds of settlers, backed by Israeli army forces, gathered today evening at the entrance of various villages and towns to the west of Salfit governorate in order to establish an illegal settlement outpost there, according to Omar Samara, head of Haris village council.

Israeli reports said the settlers intend to establish today three new outposts in different areas of the occupied West Bank.

The European Union expressed concern about reports that Israeli settlers plan to establish several new outposts in the occupied West Bank, adding to the 150 illegal outposts that exist today in the occupied Palestinian territories.

“Outposts often serve to establish or further expand Israeli settlements and are a potential direct source of increased settler violence against Palestinians,” said the EU in a tweet. “Settlements and outposts are illegal under international law and constitute a major obstacle to the achievement of the two-state solution.”
