RAMALLAH, Monday, July 11, 2022 (WAFA) – Israeli settlers today uprooted around 450 trees belonging to two Palestinian residents in the towns of Turmusaya and Mughayir to the northeast of Ramallah, according to the coordinator of the farmers’ charitable association, Mohmmed Alwan.
He said that a number of settlers from the Israeli settlement of Adi Ad, built illegally on Turmusaya and Mughayir land, raided the area and uprooted 200 olive trees and saplings, in addition to 250 almond, plum, peach, and grape trees.
He said that settlers, backed by the Israeli army, set fire to a vehicle in Turmusaya and assaulted an elderly woman and her sons a few days ago.
Settler violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities.
Settlement is a war crime according to the 1998 Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. The presence of settlers in the Palestinian territories violates the basic principles of international humanitarian law, said Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor.
“As they are responsible for settler violence, the Israeli authorities should put an end to double standards in dealing with events in the Palestinian territories and discourage settler violence by not protecting it,” it said.
