Manama: The Shura Council participated via videoconferencing in the joint Gulf seminar for legislative councils of the GCC. The event, organized by the Council of Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain in cooperation with the GCC Secretariat General, focused on discussing shared interests and exchanging parliamentary expertise to support joint Gulf action and develop legislation across various sectors.
According to Oman News Agency, Dr. Abdulaziz Rashid Al Hashmi, a member of the Council, presented a working paper titled "The Gulf Digital Economy: Legislation, Development of Technological Infrastructure, Enhancing GDP Contribution, Stimulating Investments, and the Safety of Digital Society." The paper addressed the main challenges faced by legislative councils in regulating the Gulf digital economy, as well as plans, strategies, and the legislative system related to the digital economy in the Sultanate of Oman.
The working paper presented by the Shura Council of the Sultanate of Oman serves as a strategic roadmap for empowering the Gulf digital economy through unifying legislation among GCC states. It highlights the Sultanate of Oman's efforts, from digital transformation initiatives and modern legislation like the Data Law and the establishment of the Investment Court, to the targets of Oman Vision 2040 and advancements in artificial intelligence.
The paper reviewed the Council's oversight and legislative efforts in preventing digital monopoly and monitoring national indicators to enhance investment attractiveness. It concluded by stressing the importance of preparing a unified Gulf legislative framework and establishing a joint coordination committee to ensure sustainable growth and the safety of the digital society.
