Sinner Extends ATP Rankings Lead After Historic Fifth Consecutive Masters Title

Madrid: Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has extended his lead at the top of the ATP World Rankings, pulling further away from Spanish rival Carlos Alcaraz after capturing the Madrid Masters title, a prestigious 1000-point event. Sinner became the first player in tennis history to win five consecutive Masters titles, defeating Germany's Alexander Zverev in the Madrid final in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. The victory pushed Sinner's points advantage over Alcaraz to 1,390 points, with the Spaniard sidelined by injury. Zverev held on to third place despite the loss.

According to Oman News Agency, the top ten saw modest changes: Russia's Daniil Medvedev climbed to ninth, while Italy's Lorenzo Musetti dropped to tenth. Frenchman Arthur Fils made a notable leap, rising eight places to world No. 17 after reaching the Madrid semi-finals. In the WTA rankings, Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk achieved a career-high 15th position following her women's singles title in Madrid.

The gap between top-ranked Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka and second-placed Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan narrowed to 1,555 points after Sabalenka's quarter-final exit in Madrid, sharpening the contest between them ahead of Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of the season.
