Socialist International affirms right of Palestinian people to self-determination

MADRID, The 26th Congress of the Socialist International, held in Madrid during the period November 25-27, has reaffirmed the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including the right to their independent State of Palestine on the 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Congress reaffirmed its “commitment, in accordance with international law, to bring a complete end to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories that started in 1967, so as to achieve the two-state solution, as two sovereign democratic states for all their citizens, living in peace and harmony; and a just negotiated solution to the issue of the Palestinian refugees.”

SI urged a greater international action in order to achieve a just and lasting peace based on International Law for Palestine and Israel, including an end to the Israeli occupation.

The organization called for a total end to the settlement activities, the immediate cessation of the destruction of homes and the deportation of Palestinians.

It made an urgent call upon all its members to take concrete measures in order to save the prospects of a just and lasting peace between Palestine, Israel and the rest of the region.

SI condemned all unilateral acts at all levels including acts of settlers’ violence aimed at Palestinian civilians, and called for the cessation of all forms of violence against the non-violent popular Palestinian resistance and all innocent civilians.

SI expressed its support and solidarity with the Palestinian women struggling for their dignity, their family members and their people’s freedom and dignity from the Israeli Occupation. It also expressed its solidarity with the Palestinian women in the Israeli jails deprived from their children and family members, especially those suffering from chronic diseases.

The international organization urged the international community to call for an international conference for the Middle East Peace Process based on the relevant UN resolutions, international law and the Arab Peace Initiative.

SI demanded Israel to fulfill its commitment to signed internationally recognized agreements with Palestine including the agreed component of election in East Jerusalem
