Total Transshipment Volume at Port Shinas Increases Significantly Over 2025

Port shinas: Statistics released by the operating company of Port Shinas indicated a remarkable increase in total transshipment volume at the port, reaching 768,201.7 thousand tons during the past year. This figure reflects a substantial rise compared to 2024, which recorded 60,850.51 thousand tons.

According to Oman News Agency, Eng. Khater Ali Al Maamari, Executive Director of the Port, pointed out that this increase is due to the active movement witnessed by the port, thanks to its strategic geographical location. Al Maamari explained that transshipment is a vital operation for transferring goods and liquids, including petroleum and petrochemical materials, from one ship to another while at the port or in neighboring areas. He noted that the types of transshipment include general cargo, such as containers and non-liquid dry materials, in addition to dry bulk cargo like grains, coal, and minerals, as well as liquid bulk cargo such as crude oil and chemicals.

Furthermore, Al Maamari emphasized that these operations enhance the efficiency of maritime logistics, enabling vessels to unload or load cargo without the need to rely on long waiting periods at the port berths. These operations also contribute to reducing congestion, allowing large ships to offload part of their cargo to smaller vessels, which facilitates distribution to multiple destinations.

Regarding economic feasibility, Al Maamari explained that increasing the volume of cargo handled through transshipment bolsters total tonnage without requiring additional berths or warehouses, thereby reducing waiting costs and lowering operational costs for ship owners. He added that these operations generate direct revenue for the port through higher service fees due to the level of expertise and complexity associated with operating such activities.
