Muscat: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced a decision to amend several provisions related to the registration and use of radio frequencies and devices, originally set by Decision No. 133/2008. This amendment is part of an effort to adapt to the rapid technological developments within the telecommunications sector, fulfill market demands, and improve the management efficiency of the radio frequency spectrum in Oman.
According to Oman News Agency, the draft amendment aims to optimize the use of frequency spectrum, encourage investments, and support the expansion of telecommunications services. The regulation seeks to establish a regulatory framework to facilitate modern telecommunications services, simplify the radio license acquisition process, and reflect the true value of the frequency spectrum. It also intends to stimulate efficient spectrum use.
The regulation is expected to enhance the management and utilization of the frequency spectrum, which is a limited national resource. It aims to create an attractive investment environment for the telecommunications sector and emerging technologies by ensuring a stable regulatory framework.
Furthermore, the regulation supports digital transformation through the deployment of modern telecommunications networks and enables technologies that rely on wireless communications and satellites. It aligns radio telecommunications service fees with evolving services, thus promoting the adoption of modern services and technologies.
The amended regulation applies to Class I licensees offering satellite broadband services, Class III licensees, and licensees of aircraft and ship stations. The full details of the regulation are available on the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority's official website and digital platforms.
