The Agricultural Development Association organized a tree-planting event in land threatened with seizure by Israeli authorities in the village of Jayyous to the east of Qalqilia, in the occupied West Bank, according to a local official.
Director of Agricultural Relief Projects for the north of the country Ahed Zanabit said this event emphasizes the right of the Palestinian people to the land, which is continually subjected to Israeli settlers’ attacks, including destruction, uprooting, and the burning of trees, particularly olive trees.
Palestinians heavily depend on the olive harvest season for their economic livelihood.
A hundred trees were planted today at the eastern part of the village adjacent to Israel’s apartheid wall as part of the popular resistance campaign against the Israeli procedures of confiscating Palestinian private-owned land for the benefit of settlement construction.
Similar events will be taking place throughout the West Bank, with the aim of planting at least 2500 saplings.
