UN Security Council to hold an emergency session on Thursday on Israel’s violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque

NEW YORK, The Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, said today that the United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency session tomorrow, Thursday, to discuss Israel’s violation of the status quo in Jerusalem, and specifically at Al-Aqsa Mosque, at a joint Palestinian-Jordanian request, which was supported by the United Arab Emirates, the Arab delegate to the Council, as well as China.

Mansour explained that the session will be held at 3:00 pm New York time, 10:00 pm Jerusalem time, and will discuss Israeli violations in Jerusalem, especially in the wake of the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, the storming of the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque on Tuesday.

He pointed out that the Council of Arab Ambassadors and the Islamic group are going to hold meetings today on the emergency session. In the evening, a joint Palestinian Arab-Islamic delegation will meet with the President of the Security Council, and two other meetings will take place for the Non-Aligned Group. and the Palestine Committee to the United Nations.

Mansour stressed that the Security Council’s session is very important for its rapid convening and the unification of the international community in condemning and rejecting this intrusion by an extremist minister, supported by the most extremist government in the history of Israel, to stop the violation of the historical legal status quo in Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif.

Yesterday, President Mahmoud Abbas instructed the Palestine Mission in New York to take immediate steps in the United Nations and the Security Council to condemn and stop the attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque by members of the Israeli government and extremist groups in a serious violation of the historical and legal status in occupied Jerusalem.

He stressed the importance of international action to stop the dangerous Israeli escalation against Islamic and Christian holy places, noting that this step is being coordinated with Jordan and other friendly groups in the United Nations.
