Upper Air Trough to Affect Oman from 18-21 April 2023

The latest analysis of weather maps in the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre indicate that an upper air trough will affect the Sultanate of Oman starting from tomorrow (Tuesday) 18 April until Friday 21 April 2023.

The centre indicated that there is a chance of clouds advection and isolated thundershowers associated with occasionally fresh downdraft over Al Hajar Mountains range and adjacent areas. The peak of the effect of the trough is expected over the governorates of South A’Sharqiyah, North A’Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and A’Dakhyliah.

Heavy rainfalls are expected from 20-45 mm that may cause flash floods (wadis) on Wednesday and Thursday. Fresh downdraft is expected with a speed of 15 to 35 KT (28-64 km/h). Horizontal visibility will be poor due to dust rising during thundershowers.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) advices all to take precautions during rain and wadis flow and to check the visibility and sea state before sailing, as well as follow the issued weather bulletins and reports
