With police indifference, number of Palestinians killed in criminal acts in Arab towns in Israel reaches 74

THE GALILEE, Despite calls on the police to take seriously the rise in crime and murder in the Arab towns in Israel and apprehend the perpetrators, police remain indifferent to these crimes as the number of Palestinians killed so far this year in these towns has reached 74 with the death last night of a young man in his 20s from the Galilee town of al-Mazraa of gun wounds sustained earlier.

Another 22-year-old youth was critically injured in a shooting incident near the town of Baqa al-Gharbieh.

Five people were killed in criminal shooting attacks since the start of the week, including the journalist Nidal Ighbariyeh, 44, in Umm al-Fahm, and a 34-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter in Lydda in central Israel.

Palestinians in Israel, who make up around 20 percent of the population, accuse the state of discriminating against them by not giving enough attention to the rise in murder and crime in their communities.

Israeli reports earlier admitted that most of the criminals involved in the attack work as police informants and therefore are not apprehended.
