Oman National Cricket Team Loses Semifinal of Asian Games Qualifiers

Muscat: The national cricket team lost its match today against Nepal by a margin of 8 points (95-2 / 94-10) in the semifinal of the qualifiers currently being held in Singapore.

According to Oman News Agency, the qualifiers determine the berths for the men's cricket competition (T20I) within the 20th Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from 19 September to 4 October 2026.

Our national team will face Malaysia tomorrow, Monday, at the conclusion of the qualifiers in the third and fourth place match, while Nepal and Hong Kong will meet in the final match to determine the first and second places.

The national cricket team, along with the four teams that advanced to the semifinal round, had officially secured qualification for the 2026 Asian Games, continuing its continental presence in one of the largest Asian sporting gatherings.

The national team commenced its campaign in the qualifiers by achieving a victory over the host Singapore team by a margin of seven points in the opening match, before defeating the Kingdom of Bahrain team by 20 points in its second match, confirming its well-deserved qualification for the decisive rounds of the tournament.

In the Asian Games, the Omani team will compete against strong teams such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Japan, which secured its spot as the host country, in addition to the four qualifying teams from these qualifiers.
