Huaiji: Chinese authorities announced the evacuation of nearly 70,000 people in Huaiji County in the southern province of Guangdong after persistent heavy rains caused widespread flooding that affected some 300,000 residents. According to Oman News Agency, the floods were attributed to Typhoon Wutip, the first typhoon of the season, along with a strong low-pressure system and heavy seasonal rains that began sweeping the region last Saturday. Local authorities reported that the floods injured 15 people, with no life-threatening injuries. Flood damage also affected 19 towns in the county, with extensive damage reported to infrastructure, including dams, roads, and farmland. The water level at a hydrological station on the Huaiji river reached 55.22 meters on Wednesday morning, exceeding the warning level by 5.22 meters. In response to the situation, authorities activated the highest level of flood emergency response, deploying more than 10,000 rescue personnel, supported by over 500 units of emergency equip ment. Schools, work, production, transportation, and business activities were suspended across the province.
