Muscat: Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Educational Quality Assurance will launch a programme on 2 December 2024 for evaluating the performance of schools in the Sultanate of Oman. Dr. Jokha Abdullah Al Shukaili, CEO of the Authority, stated that the new system aims to maintain the quality of school education and higher education in alignment with international standards. Additionally, the system encourages educational institutions to develop their own internal quality assurance schemes. According to Oman News Agency, Dr. Jokha highlighted that this national system is part of a comprehensive strategy by the Authority to enhance the efficiency of education in both public and private schools. The assessment process will involve a comprehensive review targeting a set of specific standards and indicators that must be met by each institution. Dr. Jokha further mentioned that the Authority, through the School Education Quality Assurance Centre, has issued the 'National System for Evaluating School P erformance' after extensive experimentation and review of regional and international practices. This system incorporates insights from consultations with local and international experts and aims to accommodate schools with varying settings across Oman. Dr. Thuraya Saif Al Hosni, Director General of the School Education Quality Assurance Centre, noted that the new system is expected to drive a significant positive shift in school performance. The assessment will involve field visits by educational specialists who will draft reports identifying strengths and areas for improvement, thereby aiding school management in formulating strategic improvement plans. The National System for Evaluating School Performance is an integral step towards the realization of Oman Vision 2040, which prioritizes education, learning, and research. It aims to elevate Oman's regional and international status and foster a motivating and innovative environment that meets the aspirations of students, parents, and society.
