Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Financial Services Authority (FSA), secured the fifth position globally after the National Health Insurance Platform 'Dhamani' was recognized among the best digital platforms in the category of information technology applications for e-government at the World Summit on Information Society Forum 'WSIS+20' for the year 2025. The event, held in Geneva, was organized by the International Telecommunication Union.
According to Oman News Agency, 'Dhamani' is an integrated national electronic platform that facilitates the exchange of data and claims related to health insurance between insurance companies and private healthcare institutions. The platform plays a critical role in providing a unified medical file for insurance policyholders, accessible to any private healthcare institution linked to it.
The platform achieved fifth place after competing among more than 360 projects that qualified for the final stage from various countries worldwide. The total number of projects participating in the first stage was 972 digital projects.
Sheikh Abdullah Salim Al Salmi, Executive President of the FSA, stated that 'Dhamani's' fifth-place ranking at WSIS+20 signifies international recognition of the platform's efficiency in regulating transactions between insurance and private healthcare institutions. Al Salmi highlighted that this accolade is one of the most prestigious globally in the technology sector.
Al Salmi expressed pride in this national achievement, illustrating the transformation within the health insurance ecosystem, particularly in real-time data transfer, obtaining approvals, and settling financial claims. He emphasized the platform's role in documenting medication prescriptions and its reliance on a unified medical coding language, enhancing transparency and service quality.
Al Salmi also mentioned that the platform contributes to increasing investor confidence in private healthcare and insurance institutions, marking a significant milestone for Oman's digital transformation in financial services. He described the recognition as an indicator of success for Oman, evidencing the development of the health insurance market and the legislative and technology infrastructure.
He further noted the platform's digital efficiency since its operations began in late 2024, with more than 4.2 million health insurance transactions completed by mid-2025. The platform facilitated the settlement of insurance claims amounting to RO 3.5 million and achieved 1.4 million medical approval transactions.
Additionally, all insurance institutions are linked to the Dhamani electronic platform, along with 33 private hospitals and various health complexes, clinics, and specialized centers. The platform aims to serve over 650,000 insurance policyholders by early August.
It's noteworthy that last year, the FSA won first place in the electronic business category with the electronic disclosure platform 'Bayanat', reflecting Oman's success in digital transformation within the financial services market.
