Cairo: The Sultanate of Oman today took part in the 29th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information, held in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The Omani delegation was headed by Abdullah bin Nasser Al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, acting on behalf of Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology.
According to Oman News Agency, the meeting discussed ways to develop the sector of telecommunications and information technology in Arab countries, keep pace with the rapid global digital transformations, and consolidate joint Arab cooperation in areas of modern technology. The meeting approved the formation of an Arab Artificial Intelligence Committee to coordinate Arab efforts in this area.
The session focused on the need to enhance joint Arab cooperation in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI), build capacities, and exchange expertise for addressing the growing digital challenges. In a speech at the session, Al Rahbi emphasized the importance of boosting joint Arab cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, due to escalating global cyber threats and related challenges posed to digital infrastructure and information security.
Al Rahbi outlined the progress made by the Sultanate of Oman in communications and information technology, noting developments in communications infrastructure, broadband and fiber optic network expansion, government service digitization, and data governance to boost digital transition and sustainable development. He also highlighted Oman's efforts to promote investment in communications, information technology, AI, and cybersecurity, while building national capabilities, encouraging innovation, and using modern technologies to improve service quality and bolster the economy.
Through its participation in the meeting, Oman affirmed its support for Arab efforts aimed at strengthening integration in the communications and information technology sector, as well as initiatives that contribute to the safe and responsible use of modern technologies to achieve the interests of Arab countries and serve the aspirations of their people.
