Muscat: Gold prices edged lower today as investors held back from making large bets ahead of the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decision, with markets widely expecting an interest rate hike. Spot gold fell 0.1% to $4,288.48 an ounce, after touching its lowest level in more than a month on Monday. US gold futures for December delivery fell 0.1% to $4,328.10 an ounce. Among other precious metals, spot silver was little changed at $63.67 an ounce.
According to Oman News Agency, the anticipation surrounding the Federal Reserve's decision has kept investors cautious. The potential interest rate hike has implications for gold, which tends to struggle in rising interest rate environments as it does not yield interest. The current market sentiment reflects the uncertainty about the scale and timing of the rate adjustment.
The gold market's response is a reflection of broader investor sentiment, with many opting to wait for clearer signals from the Federal Reserve before making substantial investments. This cautious approach is mirrored across other precious metals as well, with silver prices remaining stable amidst the prevailing uncertainty.
The upcoming Federal Reserve decision is a critical point for investors, as it will set the tone for the economic landscape in the coming months. This decision is expected to influence not only the gold market but also broader financial markets as investors adjust their portfolios in response to the central bank's policy direction.
