Israeli forces seal off entrance to Salfit-district town

SALFIT, For the second consecutive day, Israeli forces today sealed off the entrance to Kifl Haris town, west of the occupied West Bank city of Salfit.

The heavily-armed soldiers closed the iron gate erected at the town entrance, preventing the residents from entering and leaving town.

Meanwhile, a sizable army force stormed the nearby village of Haris in the early morning hours, muscled inside the family house of 18-year-old Mohammad Morad Sami Souf, interrogated his family members and took measurements of the house in preparation of punitive demolition.

Souf allegedly stabbed three Israeli settlers to death and seriously wounded three more near Salfit city on Tuesday. He fled the scene in a vehicle and caused a car crash, before he got out and was shot dead by Israeli troops.

Israeli severely restricts Palestinians’ freedom of movement through a complex combination of approximately 100 fixed checkpoints, flying checkpoints, settler-only roads and various other physical obstructions.

Closures besides to other measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel’s 55-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestinians.
