Israeli settlers, in the presence of soldiers, block Ramallah’s main northern entrance, stone cars

RAMALLAH, Dozens of extremist Israeli settlers today blocked the main northern entrance to Ramallah, known as the DCO checkpoint, and obstructed the movement of Palestinian cars in and out of the city while soldiers were in the area, according to witnesses.

They said the settlers closed an iron gate at the checkpoint and threw big rocks on the road to block traffic in the presence of soldiers who did not intervene to stop them as the settlers threatened Palestinian drivers and attacked some with stones.

The DCO checkpoint is normally congested with Palestinians entering or leaving the de facto Palestinian capital and the presence of the settlers there can be a life-threatening situation.

The Palestinians have been urging international intervention to protect them from violence by armed settlers in light of the fact that the Israeli army, which has control over the occupied West Bank, is either not doing anything to stop settlers’ violence or cooperating with them in attacking the unarmed Palestinian civilians.
