Indonesia: Indonesia's Mount Semeru in East Java erupted nine times yesterday, sending columns of volcanic ash soaring up to 1,000 meters above its summit, authorities reported.
According to Oman News Agency, alert levels remain in place, with officials urging residents to avoid high-risk zones surrounding the volcano. Standing at 3,676 meters, Semeru recorded its first eruption at 12:07 am, producing an ash plume reaching 700 meters that drifted southward in line with prevailing winds, according to monitoring data.
Liswanto, an official from the Semeru Volcano Monitoring Post, noted that the most powerful eruption occurred at 5:19 am, launching an ash column roughly 1,000 meters above the peak. He added that earthquake activity associated with the eruptions continues to dominate the volcano's seismic behavior.
