Nairobi: The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Korea have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at bolstering bilateral relations and fostering collaboration in environmental protection, climate change, and sustainable development. This agreement was formalized on the sidelines of the Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in Nairobi.

According to Oman News Agency, the MoU seeks to build a long-term partnership grounded in equality and mutual interests, with a focus on safeguarding the environment and ensuring the well-being of present and future generations. The agreement emphasizes joint action on both bilateral and multilateral fronts to address global environmental challenges, underscoring the two nations' dedication to strengthening their environmental partnership and enhancing areas of joint cooperation.

Signing on behalf of Oman was Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, while Kum Hanseung, Deputy Minister of Climate, Energy, and Environment, represented Korea. The MoU encompasses several crucial areas of cooperation, including air quality management, water resource management and pollution, biodiversity protection, desertification combat, land degradation prevention, circular economy promotion, waste management and recycling, climate change response development, carbon reduction technologies, infrastructure adaptation, and support for the transition to a green economy, including hydrogen and green buildings.

The MoU also outlines various forms of cooperation, such as information and expert exchange, staff training, joint project development, and organization of seminars and workshops, all aimed at enhancing the exchange of expertise between Oman and Korea.
